Perhaps, so but I was under the impression that in German culture, it matters more what your mother was vs father. He could be 50/50 ethnically but his father was born in the USA and he's a generation removed from Germany, whereas his mother was actually born in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland as a McLeod. He very well could be of Scandinavian origin from that line.

Trump is more Scottish than German. His grandfather was from Germany, but his mother came from Scotland.

You would not know unless he got tested which ethnicity is most dominant.

I think you need to speak the language too and have some sort of connection to the country/culture. Having German ancestry and calling yourself German are two different things.

But what if someone considers himself a german. Trump said he is a proud German-American? Not everyone thinks the same. I know a guy who said he is american and mixed gypsy and jewish. He thinks he is a gypsy but his brother thinks he is jewish. What about that?

Who ever claim to be proud German American? I've seen only Italian American celebs showing some ancestry proud. Taylor Swift is mostly German/British and she do not give a shit about it.
