Very narrow way of putting 'nationalism'. It's just a country with a strong state nationalist tradition. Not good for minorities because it's very centralist. French also seem to have the idea that everyone would love to be like them or something.

Well in this case how are you defining it then?

Well, it's too abstract, and I edited my post.

In Belgium you can see this as well. They don't need a nationalist party for protectionism for their community, because every party is like that. In Flanders a nationalist party got popular, making politics way too narrow (single issue voting, relative lack of true politics). Then again, Francophone Belgians lack a proper right wing party. Their options are also very limited. Belgium, not a country with communities who love debate. Perhaps not the best of examples.

    Here you have it.

    Indeed, it does.

That'd be completely unnecessary lol and not a good comparison. French is the language of education in the Maghreb. Maghrebis are already proficient in French before immigrating to France, while most Latinos coming to the US (especially the ones from Central America) speak zero English.

Maghrebis go to France literally due to the convenience of ALREADY speaking French, being a former French colony and all. While first generation Latinos simply don't bother to learn English, because well they don't have to, like you said anywhere you go there's someone who speaks Spanish.

Although there is evidence the younger generations may be losing it there too.

Not common imo : between expat students or an old mother on the phone but that's it
