Default Gallo-Scythians (Basternae) from Ukraine (Ancestors of Serbs?)

Gallo-Scythians aka. Celtic Ukraine (Western Ukraine)

’…to the Maeotic Lake on the east, where it bordered on Pontic Scythia, and that from that point on Gauls and Scythians were mingled’’.

    (Plutarch, Mar. 11:4-5)

From the beginning of the 3rdc. BC the territory of today’s Ukraine, previously defined by the Scythians of the North Pontic steppes and Hellenistic influences from the Black Sea zone, was supplemented by the Celtic culture from the west. The influence of the latter can be roughly divided into 2 separate spheres:

the area of today’s Western Ukraine, where comprehensive evidence of Celtic migration/settlement is to be observed, and the central/eastern part where LaTęne (note: I2a1b Dinaric) material testifies to the presence of small Celtic groups and the development of a Celto-Scythian (/Bastarnae) population, well attested to in ancient historical sources.

I believe that these are the ancestors of modern day Serbs.

Nice post. The Basternae are strong candidates specifically for the pre slavic tribe which carried I2a1b-I2-ph908, as they were located within the approximate area of its theorised origin, and their demise matches up with the slavic ethonogenesis. Another possible candidate tribe which has been alluded to is the Lipitsa culture, a northern Dacian tribe which reached into south west Ukraine.

"Lipitsa culture of Dacian tribes primarily of Costoboci, who forcibly moved near tribes of Carpi and formed Carpathian Tumuli culture between the end of the 2nd and end of the 4th century CE. It will be replaced by Chernyakhov culture, but Korchak culture kept the tumuli-kurgan type of burial."

The Lipitsa culture was directly replaced by slavic culture between 2nd/4th century AD, which matches the TMRCA of I2-PH908.

    omg THIS IS IT!

Under the Emperor Probus (276-282) 100,000 of the Celto-Scythian Bastarnae were settled in Thrace
(Historia Augusta Probus 18), and shortly afterwards Emperor Diocletian (284-305) carried out another ‘massive’ transfer of the Bastarnae population to the south of the Danube (Eutropius IX.25; see ‘Ethnic Engineering’)

According to MyTrueAncestry majority of tested of Serbs are either Gallo-Scythians, Gauls, Scythians+Romans

No, Illyrians are older on Western Balkans than these, Historia Augusta says that Emperor Probus and Diocletian (2nd-4th century A.D. ) brought Hundreds of thousands Gallo-Scythians south of Danube.

Now those Gallo-Scythians mixed with Illyrians then again in 6th century people from Poland Arrived here.

Then migrations stopped for a long time, and that's what you have 50% Balkan 50% Eastern European people.

    Amazingly complex isn't it.

The article from first post exists for long time I guess, what makes you create this theory now and not earlier?

Yes it exist for a long time, but you need to understand many other things before you can connect Western Balkan people to those.

For example: I2a1b migration paths are only recently drawn and they go from France towards Ukraine then South to Balkans.

Then Illyrian samples which shows us strong Western Mediterranean influence that got halved with arrival of Gallo-Scythian people.

Now we know that we are AT LEAST 2nd century A.D. Balkan people.

    Interesting.

But for example my results. It seems I'm only one of Serbs who didn't got at least small Illyrian match on Mytrueancestry but I got strongest match on that supposed to be proto Illyrian sample. If we suppose matches are calculated fine then that proto Illyrian is not really Illyrian or something else is wrong.

Yes, Sinan there is a theory that I2a1b2a1 came from slavized Bastarnae https://forum.poreklo.rs/index.php?topic=166.0

Bastarnae were not Scythians, but Germanic or Celto-Germanic tribe.
