    Vajon a magyarok török eredetűek?

    En nem hiszem,

but again this can depend whom we are talking about ...eg I think its quite possible some of the tribes may have been Turkic and eg Kabars likely were.

Its otherwise not certain in my oppinion that other tribes or most tribes were Turkic.

Hungarians were a heterogenous group , most likely with Turkics amongst them but not necessarily by majority.

And also whom do we call the original Hungarians ?... is it the Ugric speakers ?
or is the Turkic warrior classes ?
We have to rememember (how to spell remember) there was a process an ethnogenesis in building this nation , when do we start to call them Magyars or Hungarians and were Magyars and Hungarians always even the same thing ?
Were Hungarians = the Onogurs and were the Magyars something else ?

Actually still lots of things we dont know for certain about Hungarian prehistory.

I think language is a significant factor here , I know there are a lot of Turanists who wish to find a way to call Hungarians Turks, but we have to be really honest here ... if Hungarians were predominantly Turkic and given they were asscociating closely at times with known Turkic peoples ...hence we should expect them to speak a Turkic language ... according to linguistics ...they dont ... but if they were a Turkic majority such as the other known Turkic tribes/nations that speak Turkic languages ... we would expect the same from Hungarians.
For example it would be even more believable that they might have been Turkic if like the Bulgars they became linguistically Slavicised but its even more interesting that Hungarians speak an Ugric language, meaning somehow Ugric speakers must have been a majority or dominant tribe and seemingly they may have been the Magyar tribe which ishow Hungarians refer to themselves .

Ha így teszed fel a kérdést, a válasz rá egyértelmű: nem. A mai M.o. területén élő magyarok biztosan nem török eredetűek.

My current position, and I've read a number of posts here on this topic, is I just don't know. Turul makes an impassioned argument for it, he uses evidence and I respect him. Oszkar too, makes great points from a different perspective. Let's consider two major elements: genetic and cultural. Also let's remember that the op question is about the conquerors specifically. Genetically, I don't see why they could not be Turkic or Hun for that matter? Culturally, well, Turul has pointed out many cultural elements that support Turkic origins. Or is it just influence due to alliance and geographic proximity to Turkic peoples while still on the Steppe? How come Magyars spoke a non-Turkic language? Ultimately, I can understand why there is room to have an opinion of either yay or nay to this question.
