Do you say "good day" as your main greeting in NZ? Do you shorten everything to words like "barbie", "brekkie", "crim" etc? Also, I notice that the vowels in NZ English are different to those in Aus English.

I think Australia and NZ but I think ever since the internet age Aussies are adopting more American lingo.

Depends on the generation of people, never heard any people my age say good day lmao. But yeah the older gen would, although not that cheesy gday that aussies use. We shortern our words, but not as much as aussies do.

Yes the vowels are very telling.

What I find interesting is how many upper-class and even middle-class Aussies and Kiwis basically sound British, in a way that's really rare for Americans and probably Canadians of a similar social standing to do so.

If by America you mean just Minnesota then maybe but it's definitely Aussies & New Zealanders. We've got loads of accents in America.

Overall NZ and Australia are closer, but Canadians accents are closer to Northern US states than Aussies are to Kiwis.
    Spoiler!

Tough call. A lot of Canadians I've met almost sound almost indistinguishable from Americans. People from BC, esp Vancouver, sound a lot like West Coast US.

Australian accent and New Zealand accent sound more alike, IMO.
If you see a post in red font made by my username, that means that it is Pompey's post, not mine.

It's due to influence from the Loyalists that fled the American Revolution.
