To me they're physiologically and culturally very Eastern European. However, in a firm where I was doing a work placement, a Polish colleague got very offended when I referred to Poles as Eastern Europeans, correcting me by saying they are Central Europeans instead.

I consider Poland to be Central Europe. If you take a look at the extreme western & eastern point of Europe - Poland is right in the middle.
