Nearly 5,000,000 Californians voted for Trump, included myself, despite that nearly 9,000,000 voted for Hillary. It's a winner take all state; conseqently, the Republicans didn't benefit from the 5,000,000 votes. Ostracizing a State because it votes differently is against the foundation of principles laid down by the Founding Fathers. The USA has been mature enough to settle matters peacefully via the ballot box, and that's one thing that makes the country admirable; unfortunately, we have extreme polarization that threatens the infrastructure of the country.

Post Script Edit: The American Civil War was a different matter, because the CSA States broke away out of their own will to leave the Union.
