Well... my favorite national team is Spain and it isn't there.
So, I go with Argentina, Uruguay (dad's country) and Portugal (roots).

That's not breaking news, is it? Portuguese teams have always many blacks and half-breds. Still, France is the least European of the four.

It's not about catching up! It's simple demography.
If you take into account Portugal's history, it's not surprising. Nonetheless, we still have a lot of natives. And if you see the names of the non-natives you'll see that they have Portuguese names/surnames.
Other countries such as England, Netherlands and even Germany have the same or even more non-natives than we do.

Take a look at Ukraine and Russia. Their national teams have 2 naturalized Brazilians now.

The demographic trend is clear in the sense that native Europeans will decrease in number (low birth rates; immigration), particularly among the younger generations and so many more people of non-European background will appear in the national teams.
Go to any public school in any European capital and you'll see who will be the majority.

And Portugal, Spain and Italy who used to have really high birth rates now have the lowest in Europe.
