Abort yes. It's cruel to the baby and who will take care of him if/when you're not around.

Most of them have relatives and family anyway who would help.
Sounds fair, except if were not a fairy tale. Even in the so called, developed western countries, old people, that are left in homes for old people, are treated like shit, literally. Even if you spend all your salary on hiring a nurse in this kind of facility, your old folks are still going to be treated like shit. Alzheimer patients can live in their poop for days without even someone taking care of them. As for fucking Africa, at least they live with their old folks.

I can't even imagine how Down's syndrome adults are treated.

Nope, I wouldn't but it wouldn't really be my decision since I'm a man. Ideally no child should be aborted, unless for some medical reason like if the baby is expected to be stillborn and the mother could die.

If in the future there were ways to prevent down syndrome from occurring without destroying life that is starting to form, I wouldn't be against that.

    Abort.

People who think every genetic mishap deserves a life of other people providing for it are stupid. In the old days kids like this would die, it is okay to abort born defection, from limb/organ loss anomaly to down syndrome, autism, and other mental disorders.

Down syndrome is totally eradicated in Iceland.

Abort obviously. Giving birth to a kid with down's syndrome and being a good parent are mutually exclusive because a parent must want their kid to succeed and have a happy and plentiful life, which someone who starts off with such a handicapping disease can't have.

The irony is that the French doctor and geneticist who discovered (with Marthe Gautier) the cause of Down syndrome, who made the link with a chromosomal problem, Jérôme Lejeune, was a devout Catholic and absolutely opposed to abortion, including that of children with mental disabilities like Down syndrome. He hoped that thanks to his researches which led to an in utero detection of the condition, we would be able to “fix the problem”, to “cure” the problematic chromosome. But instead of that, his discoveries were used, not for further researches in order to cure the babies, but to kill them. It was really a tragedy for him. He became an ardent anti-abortion activist and nowadays, there’s a foundation, bearing his name, fighting against the abortions of babies with Down syndrome and doing medical research in order to cure the babies. By the way, Jérôme Lejeune, because of his engagement as a Catholic in bio-ethics, received the status of “venerable” by the Vatican.
