Since yesterday, I am officially unemployed.
I have been working since the age of 17 in the IT industry, first as a sysadmin and then as a programmer (C# and Java). Having secured a passive income (real property for rent plus a deposit account), I realized that I no longer could nor want to connect my life with computers, since this is fraught with depression and schizophrenia in the future. Besides, the low threshold for entering the profession of a programmer now and the direction of IT evolution in general gradually reduces its authority and prestige. In addition, life is too short to work most of it. The USSR, where it was honorable, no longer exists. I have parents, a little son and a wife, now I can give them enough time.
Is there anyone else in this situation like me? What psychological problems await me? After how much time will I drink myself to death, or vice versa, will I become free from shackles?

I left my job in last August, and since haven't worked for dyadya, must say i never felt any better in my life, it was truly a wonderfull feeling when i woke up after being jobless for a week and realised that for the first time since i remember myself i don't owe anything to anyone, no kindergarten, school, university or job.

Да, я согласен - это одно из замечательных ощущений. Хотя я не особо жалуюсь на своё прежнее рабочее место и отношения с коллегами и начальством - но увлечение компьютерами глубже уровня хобби и особенно программирование способно угробить психику в перспективе, в моём случае уж точно.. Программирование - дело молодых. В начальники я не хочу - нервы дороже. Планируем с корешами попробовать в бизнес - вопрос на стадии проработки).

WOW!!! No need to project your limited understanding and prejudices onto other people. The world isn't a carbon copy of the former USSR and its Socialist or Communist Ideas. There's a thing called Capitalism, and people whom invest (ie in real estate) are part of the fabric of economic growth.

If you don't like it, then write to President Trump about it, a man who made a fortune in the real estate business, as a Landlord. You do know that Donald Trump made a fortune from investing in the real estate industry, as a Landlord?

Okay, I can see that I got triggered, and I get it that you wanted to bump the thread provocatively, but I fail to see the implied humor.

Here's what you said: "Bump, are there any rentiers or other parasites among the posters?" I'm sorry, but I don't see what's so funny about describing rentiers (ie landlords) as parasites? It seems to me that you harbor a resentment against real estate investors, otherwise, why would you even put landlords in the same category as parasites?

Several weeks before I made that comment, I mentioned somewhere else that I'm a landlord (here in California); to my astonishment, a different TA Poster characterized me (and other real estate investors) as parasitic. I'm sorry, but I don't see why people describing me as a parasite is supposed to be funny.

Relax, man. The USSR as a deterrent to capitalists is no longer there, and it has become prestigious to have unearned incomes, and to strain at work is the other way around. Work hard - it’s for losers, isn't it?
Enjoy the moment, maybe it will be enough for our lives (reference logic of parasites). The problem is that future generations will have to start from scratch, possibly even from negative values.

Anyway, here in the USA, land lording (ie the rentier business) has always been considered a legitimate income investment. As for myself, I spent a few years as a failed realtor, prior to being a courier for IBM, and then a teacher (with children). In fact, I was a teacher for about 2 decades, then left work, when my mom was not well. She was 91 when she died about 5 years ago. Then, I inherited real estate. I live in San Mateo County, on the San Francisco Peninsula, but my income source is primarily from rental property in the East Bay (Oakland and Berkeley).
