What's the goal? What are we striving towards here? Economic strength vs. spiritual strength, why is it set up like they are competing? It's different things that can co-exist.

They already do in modern democracies. Protests against Chinese control of Tibet was shut down unlawfully by the danish goverment/police when China was on visit here.
