Perkuwnos is the reconstructed PIE name. From there derives Baltic Perkūnas and Sanskrit Parjanya.

Yeah, but everyone knows Thor or Donar, we can thank a certain loathsome Marvel franchise for that.

Thor and Donar come from PIE sten "to thunder".

Marvel heroes are just a natural evolution of our old heroes. We should be proud of'em.

Truthfully, I have no shame in acknowledging the fact that I've not seen a single one of those flicks

PIE Gods are a pie in the sky.

Gods were all defied kings and queens who were associated with the forces of nature by later generations. All ancient religion was based on ancestry worship.

The original family of Zeus and the Titans all lived before the Thera Erruption and died out except for the Cretan, Inachid, and Iapetid lines of kings.

The sons and daughters of Zeus by mortals all lived after the Thera Eruption and Zeus was only made their father by the poets. The same applies to the sons and daughters of the other Gods by mortal men or women.

Everyone who was worshiped as a God in Greece was a deified individual.

Even the African and Indian animal Gods evolved from ancestry cults. In India they have animal Gods but we know these Gods are also represented as humans and the same goes for the Egyptian Gods.

Since native Americans have names such as Running Bear their Gods were most probably created out of the spirits of deified ancestors bearing the names of these animals or the animals themselves were named after the deified ancestors. If these animal Gods are also meant to talk to humans then it is clear that they originated as humans.
