U.S. Southerners are more patriotic than Yankees...

I've heard people say Southerners are not real Americans. Some are even called "traitors" because of the War of Northern Aggression. In reality, the South is the most patriotic American loving part of the country. Southern Americans are far more involved and active in military duty and service. More likely to fly the American flag (alongside the Confederate Battle Flag). More love of God and Country is found from Southerners than the Yankee North which claims they were the "good guys" during the War Between The States . Most Southerners can trace their family roots deep in the South in Colonial Virginia and the Carolinas, Georgia, etc. Many of them are descended from Confederate Veterans and many of them are more likely to say they love America and love being an American. They are more influenced by the philosophies of Jefferson, Washington, and Monroe. For those who say Southerners aren't real Americans, nothing could be further from the truth. It is in the Northern states where people are least likely to have Patriotic fervor.

There is a lot of state pride in the South, competition, etc. SEC football advances this pride. The spirit exists in Texas, where you the graduates of all of the Big 12 schools, UT, Oklahoma, TT, TCU, Baylor, Okie St., etc. That is kinda how the SMU football cheating scandal got started back in the day. The SMU businessmen in Dallas got tired of losing all of the time, so they started paying players.

In a 2016 survey, Virginia was the most patriotic state in the Union, and most of the Southern states were at the top. The least patriotic were New England areas and Upper West Coast. But it just goes without saying.
