    Southern Italians with mixed heritage (like half/half) weren't really common in the era when she was born (50s), now it's different but first generation/second generation married predominantly other Italian people.
    She's from New York, so it was a (educated) guess. Nearly all Italians from there turn out to be of Southern origin. Plus she looks and sounds extremely Italian, which makes it more likely AFAIC.

    Yeah I agree for New York, and I would add New Jersey and Pennsylvania, there are lot of Italians there.

    Not many Northern/Central Italians went to the US. Mainly Southern.

    For his phenotype, I do think that his anglo side shows up from what I've seen. There are pictures in which she's more "italian" looking, and other not, it depends.
