Default Who’s your favourite monarch from your own ethnicity?

My favourite one is Fatih Sultan Mehmet. Westerners called him as “Great Turk”. He knew Ottoman Turkish, Persian, Arabic, Greek, Latin and Hebrew natively. He was good at philosophy. He was interested in Venetian culture. The lands of Ottoman Empire became almost triple during his period. He conquered Istanbul when he was only 21. Had some hobbies such as poetry, miniatures, maths, physics and martial art. Also Turks believe that prophet Muhammad mentioned him as “Verily you shall conquer Constantinople. What a wonderful leader will he be, and what a wonderful army will that army be!” [Ahmad, al-Musnad 14:331]

I also like Yavuz Sultan Selim a lot. He wasn’t talented and intelligent as much as Fatih but i have a special connection with him.

Robert the Bruce or Owain Glyndwr. Both were rebellious leaders who took charge when they wanted to liberate their nations, also Robert the Bruce likely spoke English, Scots, Scottish Gaelic, Norman French, Latin, and possibly Cumbric and Irish. Owain actually helped the English in fighting against him, but was later inspired by him to lead Wales into independence, gathering any welsh who had left for England and fighting a good fight considering they were fighting one of the best militaries of the day...

My favorite king is the one whose name I proudly carry as nick: Alfonso VIII of Castile. It was the definitive destroyer of the jihadist Almohad empire, striking the final blow with the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212, which was the beginning of the end of Islam in Spain.

Very difficult to choose only one but after some consideration i'm going for King John I:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_I_of_Portugal

He was actually a bastard son of the previous king. After his brother and rightful heir died he was deemed king but had to deal with the castillians who tried to take advantage of a succession crisis in the portuguese crown:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1383%E...se_interregnum

After dealing with that he ruled for almost 50 years. He started our expansion by conquering Ceuta, discovering the Azores and Madeira islands and exploring the coast of Africa.
He also founded the House of Aviz, which was the dinasty of kings that made us a world power at the time (green row):

Other possibilities that i could choose were King Afonso Henriques (first king who created a kingdom by the sword fighting both moors and castillians) and King John II, the one who refused Christopher Columbus and reached India.

Cumbric was extinct at the time, so, bit unlikely. Glyndwr and Bruce were not contemporaries, and Glyndwr never wore a crown.

Llewellyn Fawr is my favourite Welsh monarch.
