You think. You only focus on the western part of the downtown, where most tourists settle in Athens. If we're going to talk about the greater city as a whole, it's much better than Madrid. Especially the northern and southern suburbs of Athens, as I've told previously here.

This is basically the northern and southern suburbs:









And these suburbs have 2,5 million people as inhabitants.

As for our infrastructure, it's Western standard-tier, not close. Our motorways in particular are amongst the best in the world. And Attica Ring Road, the busiest of all, which in a normal day services about 500k cars, is the best. It literally has traffic sensors below the asphalt every 60m and every 30m in the tunnels to spot down any irregularities in traffic and accidents.

Parts of the motorway system in the pics are like that since the 60s. We just didn't renew the asphalt coverage often enough as in the last 2 decades. While the newest ones date back from 30 years ago to now. We have almost completed our motorways, as they're currently standing at 3,500 km.

For naval infrastructure, Spain is clearly inferior. All the ports in the country are overdeveloped in comparison to Spain's. Piraeus' port handles about 70 million passengers and it's a lot more modern and has a comprehensive bus transfer system for the piers. As all major ports in the area. And our airports, most of them comply strictly with Western European standards, and most are above them. Athens' airport has been declared Europe's best airport about 10 times already.

The only thing Spain is better at are railways. But ours has been improved also (although it has been significantly reduced in length in comparison to the 70s).

Nice, but Madrid looks so much nicer in comparison really. You can tell by the way they look on Google Street View, it's not even close. Madrid also looks better than Rome.

I've seen Madrid from Google Street View. It honestly doesn't look that good in comparison half of all the city of Athens.

I think you know nothing about the metro of Madrid then.

I'm not talking about the size. But the maintenance, cleanliness, state of trains and stations etc. Athens is by far superior, especially in the rolling stock. But our Metro is expanding quickly. The competition for a brand new line, which will have 35 stations in its final phase has been completed. We are due to begin construction. Yes, it is small, but it's complimented by the myriads of bus and trolley lines here.

Spain is a world reference about high speed trains, we are the 2nd country in the world (after China) with the most extense net of this type of trains (the best type, of course). Even USA has literally copied our model to built its net there.
