I, honestly, don't blame people for collecting dole money. As you said: honest work is no longer appreciated so with that the whole social contract disappears. It's like during the later days of the Soviet Union: "they pretend to pay us so we pretend to work". We live in a time of monopoly capitalism, when all the roles in it are already divided and competition in the usual form no longer exists. Competition has now shifted to another plane - this is competition for jobs. Now there is a great opportunity to compete for a job with Hans from your street. I think this is unacceptable and atomizes society. You have a different opinion.

I am all for the free market but we should learn to make the distinction between a free market and capitalism: in a free market system they are a thousand competitors, each outbidding the others and this keeps the market lively, improves quality and lowers prices. Under capitalism, it's essentially the same as under socialism: there is a monopoly which can operate without any checks and balances.

Now the version in Russia is quite popular that the Revolution was just a big robbery of (quite rich) people and the confiscation of people's property in favor of the party elite. Naturally, the rights of the population were curtailed too.
Stalin tried to reverse the process, albeit under a red flag, but we have what we have.

Switzerland is a beautiful example of that idea: why is the Swiss banking system so robust ? They have a million little players. Why are the Swiss railways humming ? Same story. The Swiss political system also works because power is very much decentralised and rests in local hands. Socialism promised to do that - but it did the exact opposite. Much like how monopoly capitalism works.
