I know one thing: it's a place I will avoid. That's funny though, because the old South Africa (for all its ills) would have been a good country to spend a long holiday in.

Your knowledge is based on second-hand information you've gleaned from YouTube. I ask you the same question as I did to the previous poster: When last were you in South Africa to be able to speak so authoritatively?

I have never been there - nor do I have any wish to go there right now. If this place is really so unsafe - I'd think fifteen times over before going there or taking anyone I love there. The statistics don't lie and they don't just appear on Youtube but they can be found all over the place and, I'd trust the judgment of a South African like serpentza over what some American on Youtube says.. (it's, after all, his country). How many locks do you have on your front door ? Here in Europe, you have one and that one only closes when you go out. Farm attacks ? We don't have those here.

Can you walk out through the rough neighborhoods in town at 3AM ? I can here (and, yes, that includes the migrant borough).
