Though it hurts somewhat to admit it —from a French point of view—, it has to be Britain.
Not that we have instinctive friendly feelings about the UK, but this country is by far the easiest to figure out:
• we have shared with them a long intertwined history for about a thousand years,
• if you know French history, you know British history,
• an over inflated world metropolis as a capital, and some big towns that don't really count,
• in both countries, you can precisely evaluate the social position of a person by the way she/he speaks,
• British geography is our mirror image: green gentle hilly landscapes in the French North-West (or in South-Eastern England), picturesque mountains the farther you go South and East (in France) or West and North (in Britain).
