There is a lot to be said about the simple, savage pleasure in this, the greatest, most primal and Sacred Rite one can perform in the Temple of the Iron: the deadlift. It is a pure expression of the Odinic Will. In its execution, one is taking a stationary object, the loaded barbell, and through sheer strength and fortitude, Willing it to move through space. The loaded barbell does not move on its own in a natural state. It remains grounded. You, the Barbaric Priest are conjuring primordial forces to raise its Iron into the air by your Will.
Notice that the hardest part of the lift is simply breaking it off the ground. The force dweeboids know as "gravity" is resisting your Will. It wishes to draw matter in, to slow its energy, to resist change. In this way, the force of gravity is a feminine power, known to the ancient Norse as the rune ᛒ, Berkano. Much as the Earth draws in the seed for life, the womb draws in the masculine for Becoming, the mother draws in the child for safety, the tree draws in the birds for protection, gravity draws matter in, and in so doing, makes matter "safe". Action is danger, and the feminine gravity resists action by its nature.
The Barbaric Priest is overcoming gravity's Will by his own Will. He is activating the ᚦ rune, Thurisaz, the masculine, phallic catalyst, to overpower gravity, to spark radical change in his world and within himself, impregnating the energies around him with his own. The weight will resist this, wanting to be drawn back into the Earth. The Barbaric Priest will struggle, the bar may bend, striving to be reunited with the ground, yet the lifter, the Priest, remains upright, triumphant against gravity. Victory is by his Will alone.
