Students have easy access to federal government backed loans. If the "loan" program went away Tuition costs would drop like a rock, and non essential universities would close down. Going to a good state university was cheap back in the day. Then universities gradually increased tuition costs, then some more, then some more and students kept enrolling but paying with loans. There other big scam is called out of state tuition and foreign students. They pay out of rear end, more expensive. We also have a bunch of small, what we call, liberal arts colleges. They are expensive as phuck. We have way too many students at universities, paying a fortune, with junk majors. You can also save a lot of money by attending a community college that feeds into the State U. 2 years at each, or do 4 years at a branch campus of State U.
