Heh. Not bad for a Dutch contribution. It's still rather bland and boring but... hey.. it's not bad for a post mid-1990s Eurovision contribution.

Great question, Too much emotional blackmail to put up with to simply listen to a few vapid songs, Australia gets to put up entries so they might as well admit Uruguay.
No clue why Morocco(I don't think they've been on since the 80s but they have the option to come back) and Israel get to participate. The former eastern block countries just vote for each other. Scandos vote for each other, Balkanites vote for eachother. And lately countries like Britain, Spain and Germany find themselves with little friends. They always just seem to end up dead last.

By now, it has just become a combination of "Balkans votes" (in Dutch it has become a byword for nepotism: "Balkanstemmen") and vapid Leftist propaganda. I, for one, think it should just be scrapped and we should save ourselves the money. In fact: we might want to scrap the EBU as well.

I agree. Eurovision is one of the most extreme examples of the nebulous globalisation and cultural frivolity of our times. (I preferred it slightly in the 90's when countries were at least forced to sing in their own languages, thus truly expressing Europe's homegrown diversity).
