How two Russian researchers view the Netherlands.

Hallo ik ben Vera Shtukensia, ik ben Nikolay Tangar Igroglaz, we are from Russia. We fell in love with the Nethertlands and decided to learn dutch language and to discover more information about culture and history of this lovely country. Hope to find new friends who will share our passion.

The difference between the Netherlands and Russia is quite stark: the first is a well-manicured garden, the other one a wilderness. In the Netherlands it's next to impossible to disappear into the forest and never come out. In Russia, that risk is very real.

I have never lived in Russia, but in Ukraine it was dangerous and wild in the 90's after the collapse of the Soviet Union. It is no exaggeration to say that I am fortunate to have survived those years.

So if Ukraine is such a dangerous place. How dangerous would a country the size of Russia be ? It's the first time ever, I actually feel sorry for people who have to go back. The place they're going back to doesn't suit them at all and they made that quite clear.

I actually think they are far more interesting than you are. They don't want to go back and I don't blame them.

I think the West should do what we did during the Cold War: get the creative and intellectual types who can't stand being around you lot. Make a solid selection between the useful and not so useful and keep the not-so-useful in Russia while we give the useful a chance.

We're kinda full. I think we should be highly selective at the gate and we're just as selective for non-Russian migrants. It's just that our government is selective in its application of the law and this is exactly my problem with the whole situation: its application is selective and when you apply a law selectively, you have no law but just arbitrariness. I have a problem with that since you cannot maintain standards when you act arbitrarily.
