Who sounds more alike: Londoners and Geordies or New Yorkers and Angelenos?

Despite the fact that the distance between New York and Los Angeles is literally thousands of times greater than that between London and Newcastle, I still think the former sound more alike than the latter. Nevertheless, I am interested in what others think.

London and Newcastle, especially if you pick people from working class insular backgrounds. As a Briton you can of course distinguish and appreciate minor differences between accents you are familiar with, but I think in this case even Americans could agree that a true Geordie sounds as different to a Londoner than a Londoner does to an American.

NY/LA comfortably. Californians sound generic American to me and so do most people in the Northeast US.

Well there is indeed a distinctive Noo Yooak accent, but a lot of people from there as you say just sound generic American.

The people answering the poll must be mostly from Europe. People from California and New Yorkers sound nothing alike. They couldn't be any more different...

New Yorkers to be honest, sound remnant Cockney to my ears. The Southern accents in the USA come from SW England- especially Sussex and Devon areas, also perhaps upper crust 18th Century London speech in the Coastal South.
