It's not subordinated to the cabinet but it is a crown entity and as such it is part of the public sector. It would be interesting to know if the commissioner is appointed or elected and by who. How does that work?

So, not the NZ government only in theory, the commissioner being appointed by Governer-General (appointed by the PM) at the recommendation of the Minister of Justice.

Any ruling by the HRC is theirs. They are not instructed by parliament nor politicians but are expected to follow and give rulings based upon the laws of the land. If they feel it is serious enough, they can help initiate legal proceedings against law breakers.

Their preferred method is mediation between parties.

My point is simple, the fellow on youtube said the NZ government was directly involved inferring politicians or political interference.
