Romanian lands had relatively constant but sparse population between 1000 and 1750. Two factors major factors changed that dynamic afterwards: the peace with the Ottomans and the decline of feudalism.
All countries in the area experienced exponential population growth after 1750 (until 1980s), Romania included.
Now, if we want to be more precise, Mongol invasion set up a series of events that triggered a lot of population migration and eventually the formation of the Romanian principalities 100 years later. So there's that as well. Also, Vlachs didn't come from Macedonia. Latinophone population was everywhere in the Northern half of the Balkans. We know this from the funerary inscriptions found all over the place.
