South Carolina is considering charging the suspects with a lynching law violation.

Section 16-3-210 of the South Carolina Code of Laws defines lynching as an attack on one person by two or more people. Police haven't said whether lynching charges will be filed.

Will they use the lynching charge when the attackers were black and the victim was white? Not very PC I would say.

Police Chief Randy Scott said the 18-year-old victim, later identified as Carter Strange, was jogging through a parking lot near the intersection of Blossom Street and Saluda Avenue just after midnight on Monday when the assault happened. "This teenager was minding his own business, trying to make his curfew when he was brutally attacked and robbed," said Scott.

This guy should not have been out so late in that area by himself. Young blacks are always looking for people to rob where there are no witnesses around.

initially getting charged with the lynching law doesnt mean it will stick though. It's common practice in the US to charge high and deal down to avoid trial. Though, i'm hoping the prosecutor is a good'ol boy and won't put up with any deals.
