Fortunately, most of the research surrounding deepfakes is actually concerned with recognizing them, not creating them, but that's not to say it's not a problem. Because it is. Guess the scientists on the different sides of this arms race kinda hate each other.

It is only a problem for the sheeple masses. It is not a problem for me. In the book "The Age of American Unreason" by Susan Jacoby she talks about why America is anti-intellectual and one of the anti-intellectual trends is that video culture has overtaken text culture (e.g. books and periodicals). So, if I am reading only the news from Reuters or the Associated Press on a device like this for my news it is not a problem for me:

Good for you then. That said, you don't live in a vacuum. Others not being informationally literate can have consequences for you regardless. But I wouldn't go full Orwell here. It's probably gonna be just fine either way.
