This is the same sort of thinking that many Christians think of atheists when it comes to morality and consequences. Jews don't need to believe in Hell to have morality and etc since it came with us humans during our course of evolution millions of years ago where we humans figured that killing your fellow humans is wrong due to learning that causing harm to other human beings is wrong which is based on objective facts. Of course, civil law and order in any civilized society had existed long before the existence of Judaism and its daughter religions; Islam and Christianity, and the ancient Israelites, who were an ancient Hebrew speaking Canaanites native to what is now Israel/Palestine, were very civilized back then.
In other words, you don't need to be a Christian let alone being a deist to be a good person. In fact, religious countries tend to be more chaotic and filled with crime and instability than atheistic countries. There are studies on that.

It's not about being a good person. Hell is full of "good people". All humans have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. That's why Jesus died for us while we were still sinners, so that we can be redeemed, and all the glory would go to God... not to ourselves. Christians are not necessarily better people than anyone else, they are just saved. Because God calls all sinners to repentance, and the blood of Jesus washes us clean and saves us from hell.
There is only one way to escape hell, and that is not by being a "good person".... it is by accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
