She was bombarded with vicious online abuse.

Model Arvida Bystrom has received threats after posing for an Adidas ad.

Arvida Bystrom is in the middle of a backlash, but she’s still speaking out. The 26-year-old Swedish model says she has received rape threats after posting an ad showing her with unshaven legs.

She’s known for challenging traditional, stereotypical perceptions of femininity.

She wrote on Instagram, “My photo from the @adidasoriginals superstar campaign got a lot of nasty comments last week. Me being such an abled, white, cis body with its only nonconforming feature being a lil leg hair. Literally I’ve been getting rape threats in my DM inbox. I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like to not possess all these privileges and try to exist in the world. Sending love and try to remember that not everybody has the same experiences being a person.”

The comments were pretty horrendous.

One said, “Is this what some women have become? No thanks.” Another slammed the photo as “disgusting”. They got worse - and don’t deserve repeating.

She's also challenged the norm by posting photos showing cellulite.

Some supporters waded in to back her up. “Thank you Adidas for showing a woman how she really is and what femininity really implies,” wrote one.

Meanwhile, Adidas described her as “an artist, photographer, model and cyber sensation, known for her photography, which questions femininity and gender standards using so-called ‘girly’ aesthetics”.

I'm sceptical about her claims of receiving rape threats... why would men send rape threats if they feel disgusted and repulsed by those horrible and unfeminine pictures of her extremely hairy and fat legs...?

There may be the odd weirdo who finds that type of thing attractive, but I don't think many men would feel excited at the sight of fat and excessively hairy legs.

How can a man get an erection or feel any sexual urge to rape a female that doesn't arouse him?
