Hitler didn't listen to his generals who made it clear they wouldn't be able to sustain a drawn out war in Russia and so yes I have a low opinion of Hitler. Hitler lost because he was a corporal turn dictator giving orders to actual generals. Sorry if this takes away shine from the Soviet military machine but the the Soviets were getting their ass kicked up until the Germans found themselves deep in Russia with limited supplies, which supports my - and every legitimate military historian that isn't a butthurt Russian - view.

You should thank Hitler and US aid for the victory. The Soviets could barely handle the Finns despite having so many advantages over them and yet we're supposed to believe the Soviets could handle the German militray without important external forces.

Rather his Generals didnt listen to him. Guderian wanted to continue to Moscow not understanding the supply issues. While Franz Halder (Chief of Staff) believed that the primary target should be Moscow and he diverted most resources there instead of what Hitler wanted (to capture Southern Russia).

D-Day was pretty insignificant compared to the event that happened at the same time on the Eastern Front, Operation Bagration. Probably you have never heard about it.
