Tourists are more likely to die of car accidents or being run over in Brazil. Homicide is more of an internal Brazilian issue, honestly. It doesn't mean tourists are totally safe from murder in Brazil, though. But it is surprisingly safer than a lot of countries out there.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Eph. 6:12
Definition of untrustworthy and loose character are those that don't believe in God.

I posted those stats because Dominican Republic is getting hammered in the media right now. There have been 6 American unexplained deaths at resorts, where people take a drink of booze, in their room, and die quickly. DR was not releasing autopsies, not doing tox reports. Then a few months ago, ironically, an American couple "disappeared" down there and the media was all over it. Ironically the couple drove from the N. Coast to SDO airport at night, a big no no. The guy wrecked the car into the ocean, the woman was thrown from the car onto the road (no ID on her so the police had no idea who she was). What was left of the man's body was found floating in the ocean, again the police had no idea who he was. Without the this accident the cluster of deaths at resorts would have not made the news. Anyways the FBI, CDC, WHO is down there investigating. Tox reports on 3 Americans should be completed in a few weeks.
And to add in another women claimed to be beaten almost to death at a resort by an employee and some idiot drug dealer had a couple of punks attempt an execution in public on a famous former baseball player David Ortiz.
