The pilot of a helicopter died after it crash-landed on top of a skyscraper in Manhattan, fire officials say.

The incident sparked a rooftop fire, which was quickly extinguished. Some workers were evacuated from the tower, but none were hurt.

The office building close to Times Square shook from the impact, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said.

New Yorkers, he added, have "a level of PTSD from 9/11" when they hear news of an aircraft crash in Manhattan.

The pilot has been named by local media as Tim McCormack.

He was the only person aboard the twin-engine Agusta A109E helicopter, said the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Those Skyscrapers can create a lot of wind phenomena. It looks like he crashed or crash landed on the top.

If he guided it so that it landed on the top of the building, and not on the street below, I imagine he may have saved many peoples lives.

Coincidentally I saw this in the news headlines just after watching lots of distressing documentaries on YT about the hijacked planes crashing into the Twin Towers on 9/11.

Also coincidentally on the same evening after reading this news article, I heard a loud helicopter flying in circles overhead outside my home. I looked out of the windows and saw an air amublance helicopter hovering very low and close overhead to my home for somewhile, and it made me feel extremely tense and uncomfortable after seeing this news article.
