Exactly. And even he got fooled when he first thought (historians are still fighting over that one) that Cortez was the returned Quetzalcoatl. The Aztecs were suffering from starvation thanks to drought as well. It was just perfect timing for the Spanish but they didn't know it. The Aztecs were shit out of luck and the rest is history.

Those conquests were always about gold. Columbus wanted to find gold. The French and British conquest of North america/India was about gold. European conquest of Africa etc. Hitler invaded other countries to take their gold reserves because Nazi Germany was in huge debt. it Had zero to do with lebensraum or bullshit Aryan superiority.
