A young refugee from Ukraine achieves the best academic record of fourth of ESO in Seville.
Lia Motrechko had to emigrate from the Crimean peninsula together with her family after the occupation of Russian forces.
Lia Motrechko, a 17-year-old Ukrainian girl who took refuge in Seville two years ago , has achieved the best academic record in the quarter of ESO in the Andalusian capital.
Motrechko currently lives with his family in one of the centers of the Spanish Refugee Assistance Commission (CEAR). According to the institution, "it is an example as many others of people who have had to flee for reasons of armed conflict and who strive and bring their talents to our society."
Motrechko and his family had to flee the Crimean peninsula after the invasion of the Russian armed forces in 2014. First they settled in the south of Ucrania, where they remained a short period of time, but the later occupation also by the Russian troops forced them to emigrate to a country of the European Union.
The young woman, a native of a Ukrainian-Crimean-Tartar family, says that "my family chose Spain because it is a democratic country where human rights and freedom of expression are respected, a fundamental issue for us."
