Default fate of Irish women taken by Vikings as slaves to Iceland

Ancient Iceland settlers had even split of Norse and Gaelic ancestry

The mapping of DNA from some of the settlers who colonised Iceland more than 1,000 years ago offers an insight into the fate of thousands of slaves – mostly women – who were taken by Norse Vikings from Ireland and Scotland before they put down roots on the North Atlantic island.

Anthropologist Sunna Ebenesersdóttir, of the University of Iceland and the company deCODE Genetics in Reykjavik, analysed the genomes of 25 ancient Icelanders whose skeletal remains were found in burial sites across the island.

Sequencing using samples from teeth revealed the settlers had a roughly even split of Norse (from what are today Norway and Sweden) and Gaelic ancestry. It is the first in-depth investigation of how a new population is formed through a genetic process known as “admixture”.

That's what happened in those days. It was a violent time. Anyway Irish were fighting among themselves so they were unstable times.

I'm still not convienced about the supposed half of Icelanders gaelic ancestry. Anthropological studies show that Icelanders cluster pretty tight with Scandos and don't show much closeness to Brits.

Lots of Irish/British Y-DNA in Iceland (ca. 25%) and in Western Norway as well, how do they explain this? Obviously not just women went to Iceland (and to Scandinavia "proper"):

They cluster close to Irish and British as well. Even looking at myself Icelanders appear quite close to Irish and Scots.

The population that I'm closest to after Irish on the G25 is Iceland.

I'm also closest to the Celtic/Viking from Iceland on MytrueAncestry

    VDP-A6 is a Gaelic/Norse mix

I think everyone would agree that Icelanders have Gaelic admixture. It's been known and acknowledged for a long time and backed up in genetic studies.

I've seen thoose studies, but my question was about the phenotypical differences between Icelanders, Scandos and Irish.

There is a study i'm basing on:

And i think it's pretty obvious from simple eye-view of populations that Icelanders are much closer to Scandos, so i was doubting the amount of Gaelic admixture among Icelanders basing on phenotypes.

But there are genetic studies so why would you base your knowledge on things like hair colour? Hair colour differences are quite subtle anyway. There is no argument though that Icelandic people have Gaelic admixture.

Well it comes from general curiosity, here is how it is in my head:

    1. Icelanders have a lot of Gaelic admixture.

    2. Thus logically Icelanders should look like Irish-Norwegian mix.

    3. Icelanders look mostly like other Scandos.

    4. Which leads to conclusion that either Irish admix is not that high, or that there were other factors in play which led to a situation where while having a high admix it doesn't show in phenotype.
