Notice how the very first thing the list among reasons to join is

..the salaries and pensions would increase, the problem of corruption would disappear, and the economy and science would develop.

So basically they admitting their own impotence and need for external ruler to sort things out. They themselves don't wont to work hard to fix their problems, they want salaries and pensions and preferably now. In Russian it's called "урвать нахаляву". Wonder where the money for all these nice things will come from?

Anyway it's impossible at this stage. Last time I checked Poland is NATO member and no entities with ongoing territorial disputes could join NATO. That road is closed for Ukraine for as long as situation at Donbass is not resolved.

As for the agreement of 1648 it was rendered void by Treaty of Perpetual Peace in 1686 by which Russia had bought Kiev and territories around it from Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. There were few more agreements made after that with Polish state disappearing from map as result. All of these later agreements are more relevant than the one selected for the purposes of the article.

Far more probable scenario is partition of Ukraine along pre-WWII borders. Poland will get the westernmost provinces while Russia will get the rest. All those dreams and hopes of Great Ukrs will be crushed by harsh realities of 'Realpolitik'.
