I actually read recently that there is supposedly addictive 'genes' which can predispose a person to abuse alcohol and other substances (kind of like the nature/nurture theory). Interesting perspective though, what factors do you think make it purely social?

Alcohol is poisonous, your body tells you to not consume it, that's why it taste like shit. People who become physically dependent do so because they flood their body with it and force their physiology to change, they have to have alcohol in smaller doses to detox. There are no alcohol receptors in your brain like with cannibinoid and opioids. Addictive personalities are fed by circumstance. Nobody except drug babies are born addicted to anything or are predisposed. There are people with chemical deficiencies like manic depressants that are predisposed due to defect, but there is no healthy human that has such a predisposition.
Those who want to live, let them fight, and those who do not want to fight in this world of eternal struggle do not deserve to live.

Even if this were hard--that is how it is ! Assuredly, however, by far the harder fate is that which strikes the man who thinks he can overcome Nature, but in the last analysis only mocks her. Distress, misfortune, and diseases are her answer.

Alcoholism over several years lowers the person's mental abilities and intelligence potential. In summary: my father at 23 years old = educated, calm, self-taught with knowledge in mechanics and other fields (he started working at 16); my father at age 61, after 35 years of alcoholism (he started at age 25) = reduced mental capacity, reduced potential, with little remains of knowledge.

Yea effects of alcohol on the brain are very bad, I have known a lot of people with similar stories, thats the thing with alcohol as it destroys your brains response to it, you have less resistance to it so you go further into the bottle until you drink yourself to death. Alcohol is a very destructive force.

They also say there is gay genes, in science they teach that fact is what is evident not that it is absolute truth. There are studies that say petting your cat stresses it out, but anything you do to a cat with wires and shit hooked up to it is going to stress it out XD. It's so hard to discern the truth, even with stuff like carbon dating in which they admit there is contamination and all these other factors. Could there be an addictive personality gene? Sure but the chances are that it has some greater natural function and the reality of modern living cultivates addictive behavior. Who says that gene isn't for mechanical processes like farming and writing and actually are good.

Do you think if there is any scientific or natural basis for this?
