I wouldn't be surprised we have been visited in recent history or not, even just probes because the contrary would be much weirder, and a bit scary to think we hurdling through infinity alone. There s little doubt other civilizations could be out there.

But im still not that sold on all those stories. I think many could have been just psychological warfare, especially back in the days of the cold war. Possessing alien craft, as in possessing alien technology would be a major psychological threat on your enemy alone, and that could justify this kind of controlled deception. Now you have implanted for free in the whole world's mind that the US have technologies beyond the cutting edge of science, much like Hollywood made you believe the US is just shiny warm beaches and Russia is only Berezina, it's imprinted in the collective inconscient wether you believe it or not.
