"Discovering wall paintings in Kemune is an archaeological sensation," she said in a press release.

"Kemune is only the second site in the region where wall paintings of the Mittani period have been discovered," Puljiz told CNN in an email.

"From the texts we hope to gain information on the inner structure of the Mittani empire, its economic organisation, and the relationship of the Mittani capital with the administrative centers in the neighboring regions," Puljiz told CNN.

"The find is one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the region in recent decades and illustrates the success of the Kurdish-German cooperation," Kurdish archaeologist Hasan Ahmed Qasim noted.

"The Mittani Empire is one of the least researched empires of the Ancient Near East," Ivana Puljiz of the Tübingen Institute for Ancient Near Eastern Studies (IANES) said.

Mitanni were Indo-Iranian people and predate the NorthWest Iranian Medes. According to me and many other scientists the Mitanni/Kassites also know as Matiene gave rise to the ancient Medes.

It has been said the native religion (Mithraism/Yezidism) of my people who are native to the northern Mesopotamia is from the Sumerians passed by the Mitanni to the Medes/Kurds.

Here is a map from 1909 of an area where Mitanni had their kingdom and according to that map proto-Iranic Gutians were there before Mitanni. That makes Gutians Aryan ancestors of the Mitanni!

The Mitanni called their capital city Washukanni. The name Washukanni is similar to the Kurdish word 'bashkani', 'bash' meaning good and 'kanî' meaning well or source, and so is translated as 'source of good' but also as 'source of wealth'. That city was located in Rojava (Western Kurdistan)
