I am trying to determine would NW euro feel closer to other northern, or other western europeans.
You are half Serb, for other NW Europeans SE is most alien part of continent.

Hard to answer based on that map. We obviously have more ties to the French than to any Eastern Europeans, but I feel closer to traditionally catholic Eastern Europeans than to Meds, and we are racially and culturally closer to them. Take France out of the equation or put most of it in the NW Euro category and I feel closer to NE Europeans, or at least to West Slavs.

Now it would be very easy .... just go and vote NW.

By then it is better that I will not vote at all. As I would twist your data. As I would vote my own people (those people which I feel the most connected) .... based on my own living place and that map above.

Now then .... if I would ''move'' myself into Sweden and vote as NW person (helping you to get results you are looking for).... and Finland is among of NE ... I don't know. For sure I feel strong connection against this country (Finland) but not at all against Russia or any slavic NE countries (no matter are those Catholics or Orthodox). Baltics? Little bit, yes. Mainly because they are tiny countries and their histories shares bit similarities (= unfair moments) with Finland's.

South West or South East ... nothing. Too distant, too weird. Can not say/compare those.

So good extra option would be:
Your are NW/NE/SW/SE ...and you can not say.

You should vote under NE (if you feel Hungarian) or NW (if you feel German), since inclusion of central europe in this research is nonsensical.

In such division Hungary is eastern europe, and most people consider it such. Linguistically Finno-Ugric languages are northeastern too.

Just like you and many Hungarians call my country balkan, and we don't like it at all

Yep, sorry! I wanted to paint it NW from a start, mostly because German language and people are most numerous there. But it can be considered SW too.
Basically, other then geography I went with this: Germanic languages NW Europe, Romance languages SW Europe.

No worries. I agree that it's a very ambiguous region, and probably should be its own category in all honesty - except that would defeat the purpose of the thread, so I understand your choice.
