This is a situation that I doubt will happen, but it is not impossible, there are currently many divisions, there is no ethnic or cultural union, the political and social union is not very good either (see Republicans and Democrats) but if the United States breaks, what would you do?

Very hard to imagine, Americans are very nationalistic and love their homeland. Assuming the case that could happen, then the countries would be the states. Some states could be economic powers, such as California, Texas or New York that are richer than many current countries. Other states may join to form a larger country, especially the states that are located in the center of the United States (to have more power).

There are some left-wing hold-outs in both areas but they would be swamped in a right-wing electoral tidal wave and out voted in every election.

Most Americans are nationalistic and I have heard of almost no legitimate secession movements within the Mainland United States. US Southerners, the cause of our last civil war, are even some of the most nationalistic people within the US today, so unless some major catastrophe equivalent to a nuclear war occurs I can't imagine the Union dissolving.... But If the union somehow dissolves, I would be willing to just pledge allegiance to my new country while still hoping the union would be restored...
