Default Why do people think climate change is a disaster? It isn't.

If you look at earth history, the climate has always been changing regardless of human activity, there were warm periods (much warmer than what we have now) and colder periods, so called "ice ages". Despite those, we humans are still here, the flora and fauna are intact too. The planet wasn't destroyed or anything. A changing climate is natural state of things. Due to rising temperatures a lot of the uninhabitable cold areas of earth will become decently habitable. Cold climate countries (Canada, Russia) will actually gain from global warming.

It is not that simple. Of course if we think about ''life'' alone .... that won't matter. Five times in Earth's history more than 90% - 93% of all livings have disappeared/dead ... and ''life'' has still found its ways. There has been 5 mass extinctions ... this was one of those:

    More about those...
    https://cosmosmagazine.com/palaeonto...ve-extinctions

5 times? So maybe that is ''normal'' too (if the time line is big enough). In any cases .... the recovery just has taken looooots of time (every time)... and ''life'' has come back differently. Always.

What comes to humans (and present situation) ... unfortunately most of people are living exactly in Earth's warm areas, not in north. Other words ... in areas which will suffer the most about global warming. What makes you think that ''North'' would welcome all those people? Our resources (groundwater and food making/fields etc.) are much too small. Humans have had wars via much smaller issues. And believe me, there are risks if permafrost will melt in Alaska & Siberia. It is older than humans (or any present mammals). It might hide something which at least I would not like to know. Talking about unknown viruses and bacterium (= diseases). Those can survive in conditions like that. Nope, it would be much better to keep it as it has been....

And last the wild animals (both north & south) ... it is catastrophe. Maybe that will not harm somebodies ... but I can feel empathy against those species.

It will lead to the melting of permafrost (increasing sea levels, loss of habitat), increased acidity of the oceans (loss of coral reefs, loss of habitat), extreme drought, loss of arable land, more extreme variations in weather and we will be less protected from the sun's UV rays.
