i am a child of Swedish immigrants of America and i was always always reminded of my rich viking Heritage by my parents since i was just a kid, in order to know more about my past i learned history of my own people and visited my native village in Sweden just north of capital city, i was informed by my pareants that our clan is descended from a Local Viking hero who raided England, France, North Germany and Baltic states. as Swede are Nordic and speak pure Germanic language so i had huge interest in Germanic History and culture of our tribe.
so after completing my college i decided to spend my whole year travelling all over Europe where Germanic languages are spoken from my own homeland to Austria and from England to Austria. after noticing the phenotypic and Linguistic diversity of Continental Germans i decided to post my own observation here.
---
I have divided Germanic people in mainland in 4 different categories/Regions and compared them to pure Germanic people in North such as Scandinavians. here is my observations listed below, with crappy map.
1) Region 1 :
here Germans are almost as Similar to North Germanic as they can get. almost every Men and Women in this area is Light haired and eyed and traces of Celtic and non germanic people are almost nowhere to be seen.
people around hamburg and Kiel are purest as they look no different from Danish people who are Nordic while Dutch are also closest to Danish and other Nords both genetically and phenotype wise in my opinion, it is difficult to point out one dutch from crowed of Nordic people unless that person is influenced by latins.
2) Region 2:
in this region people with Light hair and eyes are still majority but they dont resemble Nordic people anymore as group, people here generally have Nordish-Celtic/Alpine Phenotype thus cant pass among north germanic people but still they are among lightest and purest germans ethnically.
3) Region 3:
people in this region are mostly Brown-Black haired with Alpine Faces with strong Nordic Influence such as having predominantly light eyes and tall physical structure. however people with nordic traits are not uncommon, something like 5 in every 10 people in this region are Nordish phenotypically.
4) Region 4:
People in this region are mostly Alpine and lack Germanic traits such as having Light hair and eyes. one in 10 person in this region is Med(small structure, swarthnyess, fat face-nosed) while 2 out of 10 resemble Western Slavic people, 1 in 10 can pass in North Germany while 3/4 out of 10 can pass in all over Germany as germans.
however still germans of this region are very similar to Germanic people and look completely distinct from their Slavic and Med/Neighbors. their Alpine features are diluted with Nordic influence and their culture and way of thinking is still pure Germanic. they can easily pass as germans but bit different, they are still Firmly germanic, more Germanic than people in Northen France, and similar to English people.
East Germans are slavic ?
i dont know which con-head started this theory that North East Germans are slavic Genetically, they are not and they looked no different from nother north germans and most of them do look very similar to Nords.
in fact there is a genetic wall between Germany and Poland in my opinion, people in German side look like North Germans as they are north germans but as soon as you cross the boarder everything changes even phenotype, polish people in boarder region have round faces, Big noses and black hairs with black eyes. nothing surprising as thats the average slavic phenotype and most of the poles in that region migrated from Russia/Ukraine/Belarus region after WW2 when germans were forced out of their own Lands by Commies/Slavs and their Germanic brothers such as English and Americans also approved this, sadly.
---------------
i want to thank all the Germanic people for their warm welcome and hospitality, i must say that i enjoyed my year long stay in your countries and i enjoyed studying History, culture, Architecture and stories of brave people of your lands. food was awesome and it is certainly better than what we eat in my homeland, i will surely come back and spend some more time in Europe and this time i will visit former Germanic lands of A-L,East Prussia and other areas of France settled by Germanic and Nordic people in France such as Normandy and North East France. i am a big fan of Germanic dynasties such as Karlings and Merovingians (whom ironically my viking ancestors ironically F*ked over for 2 centuries) so i thing next trip will be a once in a lifetime thing for me.
I am going back to Sweden to meet my Family and spend some more days in my village with my cousins and move back to us for my masters Next month.
once again, thank you.
