    Default Eye-contact in your country?

    Hi!

I am a Swede live in the city Borås.
I was born here and I am 32 years old now.
But the city is odd and the people worser!

The eyecontact in the city is OFTEN BAD AND UNFRIENDLY!
    some stupuid people even stirr.
But overall the peoples eye-contact often give me bad feeling and bad viebs.
so the past 5 years I had stopped to have eye-contact with the people of city!
and something that is worst is how paranoid they are, AS FAST SOMETHING IS COMING or moving they must watch!!
    now some questin:

    1. how is the eye-contact your country/city?

    2. are people quit PARANOID in your city?

No, people are generally ok with it here (there are exceptions tho). Even when i have an eye-contact with old people and kids on public transport vehicles, i smile and they do the same sincerely.

Eye contact is a strict faux pas on London public transport... people who rudely stare at other people - or those who make eye contact with strangers - are viewed as utter weirdos and psychos.

Most people look down and either read books, newspapers, or look at their phones/tablets.

Eye contact is made during job interviews though.... or if a policeman speaks to a person, for examples.

I saw a news article many years ago about a large volume of English people who'd complained about Romanian immigrants (especially Roma gypsy pickpockets) rudely staring at them on public transport and making them feel uncomfortable, along with pushing in queues. The immigrants had to be given English etiquette lessons teaching them to learn how to queue and wait their turn, and to not stare at people in order to help them to culturally integrate.

    0:42 eye contact...

4:52 If a guy stares at another man (especially if he stares at a gangster type or a chav)... it's very likely he'll get a hostile response and a possible punch in the face.

We generally talk very quietly on the tube, avoid eye contact with strangers, and generally don't talk to strangers on the tube... we're not very friendly with strangers... at least in the south-east of England.

The north of England, Scotland, and Wales are friendlier, more jovial, bubblier, outgoing, and down-to-earth with strangers... but generally not in the south of England - especially in the south-east and London - where people are more introverted, serious, reserved, aloof, snooty, colder, and distrusting of strangers.

We don't kiss on the cheeks during greetings either. We just shake hands during formal greetings in Anglo Saxon nations, or men in pubs will just give their mates an occasional friendly and informal pat on their shoulder or back.

In the south-west of England where I was born and raised, strangers politely smile, nod, and say hello to each other whilst passing each other along countryside lanes... and drivers give a friendly wave or a nod to each other too when passing each other on quiet lanes - even if they don't know the other person. People are still not as outgoing and jovial as in the north of England, and can still be a bit reserved and politely keep to themselves, but are friendlier than in London. There's more of a community spirit in the small towns and rural villages there where people are more familiar with the locals, and the pace of life is also more relaxed and slower with lots of farmers there.

London's a big fast-paced city full of workers who are often busy and in a rush, loads of tourists, travellers, international students, immigrants, people who've moved here from all over the UK too... and with millions and millions of strangers, people are more cautious and distrusting of strangers. There isn't much of a community feel or a neighbourly bonding spirit with others in London as there tends to be in the smaller towns and rural areas of England.

In London, people generally only smile and say hi to people who they're familar with in the local parks and cafes, etc, but generally don't talk much with strangers. Dog walkers in the local parks here often make eye contact with other dog walkers and smile and say hello and often talk to each other - including strangers walking their dogs.

People are generally more relaxed and talkative in the parks in London - but not during rush hours on public transport when millions of people are busy and in a hurry. Market stall owners tend to be friendlier with strangers and often make eye contact, smile, and are friendly and chirpy with strangers.... often making small intro talk about the weather, etc... as it's their business to attract customers.

Also the Queen's Guards in London rarely make eye contact with all the annoying and rude tourists from other countries who frequently approach and mock and disrespect the Queen's Guards (who've served in war zones and the Middle East, etc.) The only time they generally make eye contact is when they're confronting someone. The guards rarely smile or make facial expressions and they often look very serious.

I live in a capital city so it varies, everyone is going somewhere usually, so the life is going faster also, people are used to the noise and bustle. In little towns folks have not much stimuli , so even little things can be sensation, atleast something happens. I don't really like if I feel someone is staring at me, but ofcourse it's not often the case, most of the time I don't really bother whats happening around me, you can't be on your guard every time lol. Eye contact has to be natural in an everyday situation, some people have frustrations, so not everyone is okay with it .

Eye contact is normal here, you look someone in the eye when you speak them.
Those who want to live, let them fight, and those who do not want to fight in this world of eternal struggle do not deserve to live.

Even if this were hard--that is how it is ! Assuredly, however, by far the harder fate is that which strikes the man who thinks he can overcome Nature, but in the last analysis only mocks her. Distress, misfortune, and diseases are her answer.
