How is it British or Americans fault?
It seems like you're starting history with WW2. In more recent years the plastic idea of unified Korea is way more similar to the former Yugoslavia, than to Germany. Germans had feeling of national belonging regardless if they are from Eastern or Western Germany which is what made them unified today once again. Korea was patched together by either various Chinese states (for centuries) or Japan (for last 50 years until the end of WW2). Whoever had it was seen as a dominant force of East Asia. In reality there is no sense of national unity between nations of one Korea to another, just like there is no such feeling among ex-Yugoslav nations.
