You can keep the name protected in your market but you can't stop other nations producing it cheaper or better quality.

Sure, no one can stop other nations to eat shit. Health is yours.
Meanwhile this is the reason while Italy economy suffers, we can't export our goods properly.
Parmigiano is produced since Middle Ages with particular techniques, is not something Americans or others can reproduce easily and/or better.
I doubt other would be able to produce a better Parmigiano considering what i saw on news

Plenty of nations have high quality artisan manufacturers. You'll never hear of them, see them or taste their products without traveling. They don't sell on Alibaba or eBay.
I support regional products protection but to assume anyone outside of Italy (or any given region, for instance, Champagne), including Americans, can't replicate or improve on the product of another region is a fallacy.
Your local big dairy corporates profit from mass-produced lower quality products sharing the same names thus the "brand" suffers the same effect when exported. Again, you won't realise this without living outside of Europe and buying this imported product that can't compete with quality local artisan food companies.
I feel sorry for the small investors but the sharemarket is the place where sharks swim.
