Bastille Day: Police clash with yellow vests after parade

    14th July 2019

Police in Paris have fired tear gas at protesters near the Champs-Elysées shortly after France's annual Bastille Day military parade.

Earlier, yellow-vest protesters booed President Emmanuel Macron as he was driven down the boulevard.

Police said they had detained more than 150 people, including two yellow vest leaders accused of staging an unauthorised demonstration.

The parade also saw a French inventor zoom past on a futuristic flyboard.

Franky Zapata - a former world jet ski champion - soared above the avenue and the assembled dignitaries.

More than 4,000 members of the armed forces marched down the avenue in a tradition that dates back to the years following World War One.

I think it would be handy for people working or living in high rise buildings to have some flyboards, (after obtaining a licence followiing training and rules on how to use them safely with a remote control, etc,) in the event of a fire in a tall building so they can escape via flyboards if fire crews can't reach them.

It's a pity all those victims who were trapped and killed in the former 'Twin Towers' of the World Trade Centre didn't have these to help them safely escape.

Parachutes and ropes wouldn't have helped the people in a situation like that with massive flames and smoke directly beneath them - but flyboards could potentially help people in the future to glide out of tall burning buildings in a horizontal direction away from the heat, flames, and smoke beneath them, before safely gliding down and landing safely on the ground.
