The number of British Isles people is much higher, only United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, South Africa and NZ have almost like 90 milion of them.

-Around 60 milion british in UK and Ireland

Other user said a lot of anglos surnames are used by blacks and its true. But dont forget Southern USA states are like 40% black and 60% white american and those whites are mostly colonial british that now thinks they are american and classify themselves as such. Thats like 40 milion majority anglo persons or even full (The same situation in Brazil).
French and German ancestry are not that big in Southern USA.

Also Yankees and other Northerns are partly anglo too, so those people count for both british and german diasporas.
Or even Italian or Jew diasporas.

This white Americans = Germans idea is nonsense. Easy to debunk. White Americans are more likely to declare German ancestry because it's more recent than British Isles. Many of those "German-Americans" are mixed with British/Irish too.
Also many people of British Isles ancestry in Southern states identify as "American" because they've been in the US for many generations.

English and irish peoples have very different national identity, different religion and irish are mostly celtic, anglos are more germanic.

I don't think that's a good comparison. These German-Americans, Italian-Americans, French-Americans etc aren't really an ethnicities in the European/old world sense. Their ethnicity is white American primarily. Their identity is not "I'm German/Italian from America", but more like "I'm an American with some German/Italian heritage".

I go by historical records.

America received (relatively) very little immigration pre 1850 and mostly descended from colonial English settlers.
The bulk of German settlers arrived after 1850.
USA received 7.5 million Germans altogether and most arrived when USA already had tens of millions of white population that descended from pre-1800 settlers(vast majority of whom were english/British)*. British ancestry is underreported, German is overreported, because it's more recent.

German immigration to USA peaked between 1880 and 1890, 1.5 million Germans settled in USA in that decade, but there were already 50 million Americans in 1880, so it wasn't THAT significant.

Therefore it's not too hard to conclude English/British people contributed the most to white American gene pool, German is a close second though.

and I almost forgot to mention America received further English immigration besides the tens of millions that descended from colonial era settlers.

I posted the data above. 64-65 million reported British ancestry (English, Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish) in 1980, before 'American' was an option, compared to 49.2 million reporting German ancestry. 23.7 million reported English as a single ancestry, compared to 17.9 million for German. In response to muh 2019 argument, there's no reason for the demographics of White Americans to have altered significantly since then, other than there being fewer and fewer people purely of any one ethnicity. In reality most White Americans are not truly either British or German anymore.

According to 23andme biggest study done in USA the british ancestry ranged from 25% to 55% depending on the state, in contrast german ancestry ranged from 8% to 16% depending on state.
