Reminds me of what an Anthroscape member told me about a pride parade in his Serbian hometown. Apparently, it was a novel idea for such a homophobic culture, and not everyone there was even gay, because they had to pay people to go there, so some desperate straight people were included, which contrasted with all the gays and lesbians who were too afraid to go because they knew there might be some hooligans who might recognize them and beat them up.
